Can I Withdraw Money From Chime Without My Card

April 9, 2022

Chime is a financial technology company that operates in the United States. The company allows you to carry out various kinds of transactions such as sending and receiving money, saving funds for future use, buying goods and services, among many others. The institution is not an actual bank but offers services similar to banks. We shall check how to withdraw money from Chime without a card.

Even though the financial company operates online, it allows you to withdraw money for various services. Withdrawing money means getting funds out of your account for various uses. Ordinary banks allow you to withdraw money at a branch over the counter or using your debit card. Is that the case with Chime? You will be able to know more about that shortly.

Since Chime is an online financial service, you have to open your account online. You can utilize your phone, computer, or tablet to start the operation. Online account opening is simple as you only use a few minutes to have your account running. Again, you can manage your money online and carry out various transaction activities.

How to open a Chime account?

As I have mentioned, you can open your account online. However, you require various things such as email address, Social Security Number, phone number, and identification document. The federal law requires that every financial company obtain all those details to ensure that only genuine people can open accounts. When terrorism became rampant, the government tightened its belts by demanding financial companies to get the various documents.

Once you get all you require, you can then open your account. The process takes the shortest time ever. After your account is ready, you deposit cash to the Chime account to begin transacting. You can get started with your account in the following manner.

Step 1: Apply for the Chime Spending Account

The Chime Spending account is like a checking account that you can get from banks and credit unions. It allows you to carry out various transaction activities such as paying bills, sending money to others, and accepting payments for goods and services rendered. Remember that, to apply for the Chime Spending Account account, you need to provide the following information:

  • Your names
  • Social security number (SSN)
  • Email
  • Password

All people opening the account must be U.S. citizens and have at least 18 years of age. That is evident upon producing the identification document. Since it is an online process, you may have to upload them for confirmation.

Upon providing all these, you will have allowed the institution to verify your identity and help to minimize money laundering and fraud, among other crimes. Once the confirmation is over, you are ready to start using your account. There are no complications of any nature whatsoever.

Step 2: Download the Chime app

After finishing the account setup, you can download the Chime application to manage your money online. Chime offers an online bank account plus a mobile banking app. Therefore, you have a choice to use any of the two. However, the mobile app is the best option to access your funds quickly. Just tap the app, and you are in. You can download the Chime App for free from the Play Store for Android devices or Apple App Store for iOS.

Once you sign up for a Spending Account, you can open a Savings Account to secure funds for future use. You can use your Spending account to perform activities such as the following.

  • Receive money
  • Send money
  • Manage your transactions
  • Deposit your money
  • View your balance

If I want someone to send money to my Chime account, I will only need to provide account details, and money will fly into my account within minutes. That applies to Chime users’ transactions. Transfers from other financial companies may take several days to reflect, depending on the method of transfer used.

One fascinating thing with the Spending account is that it comes with a free Visa debit card. A debit card refers to a payment card that allows you to use your checking account balance. In our case, the debit card allows you to use money from your Spending account. It operates like ordinary debit cards.

Step 3: Set up direct deposit

The next crucial step is setting up a direct deposit for your checking account. Direct deposit allows you to receive funds from various sources such as employers, government agencies, or NGOs. To set up the direct deposit, you have to provide your employer or any other relevant body with your Chime routing and account numbers when you fill out the direct deposit form.

Getting your routing and account number is easy as you can find the details in the app under Settings or in the Move Money section. Make sure you confirm the details before submitting the form.

How to use Chime?

There are various ways you can use your account. You can carry out the following activities since it is like a bank account.

i) Send money to others.

One of the most important activities you can do with the Chime account is to send money to other account users. The transfer is usually instant once you hit the tab sent. You can carry out the transaction in the following manner.

  • Navigate to the Pay Friends tab.
  • Find your recipient on Chime, or enter the email or phone number. You can also use the Chime username of someone who isn’t on Chime.
  • Next, enter a dollar amount and a note and Choose “Pay.”

Your friend should receive funds immediately or within a few days. If your friend is not on Chime, they have 14 days to enter the required details to open an account and instantly claim the funds. You can also send money to other banks using wire transfer or ACH methods. You must transfer money using the routing number and account number to the concerned recipient.

Wire transfers take a shorter time compared to ACH. They also allow you to transfer large amounts of money at once. However, wire transfers are not safe since you may not recover them once you send money.

ii) Pay bills

You can pay bills using your Chime account to service providers such as the internet, electricity, water, and others. Online payment is convenient as you can do it anywhere and anytime. Since the institution is among the most trusted financial companies in the country, you can be sure that your service providers are likely to accept its payments.

iii) Mobile check deposit

Times are gone when you only had to deposit checks in banks. Nowadays, you can deposit checks online using a mobile banking app. To deposit checks using your Chime account, you should follow the steps below.

  • Log in to your Chime mobile banking app.
  • Navigate to the mobile check deposit section in the menu.
  • Tap the account you want to deposit the check into ( you can deposit money either in checking or savings).
  • Enter the check amount.
  • Take photos of the check both front and back and submit them for processing.

iv) Withdraw money

You can withdraw money from your account using the Chime debit card. You need to visit an ATM near you with your card and PIN, insert the card in the machine and follow the step-by-step process to withdraw money. Sometimes you need to withdraw funds because there are things you cannot buy online.

Can I withdraw money from Chime without my card?

Chime allows you to withdraw money without a debit card to your bank account. To transfer money from Chime to a bank account, you can use any transfer methods that I mentioned earlier. These include ACH and wire transfer. You require the routing and account number of the other bank to transfer the funds.

To transfer money from your Chime account to a bank account, you can follow the steps below. You should have added the bank account already.

  • Log into your Chime account.
  • Select Move Money.
  • Choose Transfers.
  • Choose the bank account to send money to. If prompted, you can enter your external bank’s login details if you have not added your bank account.
  • Enter the amount of money to transfer and follow prompts.

Once the funds reflect in the receiving bank account, you can then use the money as you wish, you can also withdraw the funds over the counter.

How to add a bank account to Chime

Since Chime is an online money transfer platform, you need to add a payment method to help you fund your transactions when the balance is insufficient. You can add a bank account as a funding method in the following manner.

  • Visit the Transfers screen on the Move Money sections of the app.
  • Click your Checking Account from the Transfers screen.
  • Check the option to link to another bank account.
  • Follow prompts.

When you need to put money on a Chime card, you can use the linked bank account as the funds in your Chime account are still available to use with the debit card.

Bottom line

Chime is an online financial services technology company that allows you to send and receive money. The platform operates like ordinary brick-and-mortar banks, although its services are purely online. You can open a Chime Spending account or a savings one.

The platform usually issues a debit card that you can use to access your funds at ATMs or purchase goods and services. You can transfer money from Chime to a linked bank account.
